Happy New Year and welcome to our store, Salt and Branch! We are thankful that you found us. I wanted to introduce myself and give you some background on the creation of the store. I am Melissa, co-owner and lover of all things ocean and beach themed. I also love wine, cooking, my cats, traveling, music, hiking, yoga and being with friends and family. I grew up in Pennsylvania surrounded by farms and moved to Boston at 22 to attend graduate school. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and have spent my career helping children and their families learn how to thrive. I have been interested in style, both decor and clothing, since I was a child. I'm positive that my family would describe me as a shopaholic :) I LOVE Pinterest and creating boards that match my current interests and style. Over the past few years I’ve started incorporating items in the Farmhouse style into my home and now have what I call a Coastal Farmhouse style. Focused on materials like wood, linen, burlap, cotton, I would characterize the Coastal Farmhouse style as being relaxed, cozy, and inviting. I chose the items in the store to reflect these feelings. The name for the store, Salt and Branch, came from my love of the ocean (Salt) and my childhood growing up in the country (Branch). The items we sell at Salt and Branch are unique because we source mostly handmade items from small businesses in the United States. Some of the items are made by artisans in third world countries and provide sustainable wages for them and their families. When coming up with the idea for the store I knew that I wanted to support small makers from across the country. I have always enjoyed going to craft fairs, boutique stores, mom & pop shops and shopping for one-of-a-kind items that you can't find at the mall. Supporting small businesses is something that I am passionate about. On our product pages, you will find icons representing the makers' values including Made in the USA, Woman Owned Business, Fair Trade, Handmade and Family Owned Business.
As I mentioned earlier, I am the co-owner of Salt and Branch. My boyfriend, Adam, is the other co-owner and running a lot of the behind-the-scene details for the store. He is doing a little bit of everything to help me run this business and make it successful. You will be hearing from and seeing more of me because he prefers it that way, but I hope to get him on the site soon!
We are very thankful for everyone that has helped us along the way to get our business ready to open. We are excited to show you the beautiful items that we have found to help you decorate your home and have much more planned to share in 2020!
