May's Featured Maker, Simply Styled Art

Happy May! Can you believe we've made it to May?! In many ways it feels like everything has been put on hold for 7 weeks. In other ways, we continue moving forward and trying to make our way in this new normal landscape. We hope you and your families are all healthy and safe. This month we are featuring Brandi from Simply Styled Art. We sell a few of her products including this keychain and this Bobo hand painted sea glass tassel. We hope you take a few minutes to learn a little more about Brandi and look at her beautiful work.

Featured Maker Q &A

*Tell us about what you do.

Hi, I’m Brandi, owner of Simply Styled Art www.etsy.com/shop/simplystyledart. I hand make unique boho scandi neutral home decor accent pieces to help you create your story in your home. I love having things others may not have. I love unique makers and don’t want my home only styled with big box store items.

*How long have you been making your products and how did you get started?

I’ve been making product for a couple years, but only for friends and family.  I opened my Etsy Store Spring 2019. I work full-time and needed a creative outlet in the evenings because it’s hard for me to sit idle. And I love creating things that bring joy to other people when they see it.

*What is your favorite part of the creative process? Least favorite?

My favorite part is when someone else loves what I create. Well I have a ton of favorite parts, but that is one, another is the feeling of completing something. My least favorite is all the ideas swimming in my head with no time to get them all out. Sometimes this makes me a bit scattered.  LOL!

*From where do you draw your inspiration to create your products?

I draw inspiration from places, travel, photographs, books, etc. I just am drawn to a clean simple neutral aesthetic, but love touches of vintage, driftwood, cozy textures, cozy soft warmth, but then reminders of things I love, beaches, sea glass, etc. I’m a mix but definitely embrace the Hygge life as much as possible.

*What values does your business embody?

My business values customer service. I want to serve my clients well and create happiness for them in their home. When they walk by that piece of sea glass garland draped over the coffee table books, I want them to feel a bit of peace as they remember the time they were at the beach with their family relaxing and taking in the sounds, sights and feelings. I value sustainable products and love using natural products like driftwood, natural fibers etc.

*Is your business a full time or part time venture? Do you have plans to grow/expand?

Currently part time with hopes to grow to full time! I’d love to be able employee others and let them have a chance at creating as well.

*There are many challenging that come along with running a small business. What is your biggest challenge and what is your biggest reward or success?

My biggest challenge is social media and learning all things Etsy and how to get people to find you. I did not know how hard this was coming into this. I learn every single day something new. I believe one of the biggest rewards though is the other makers out there trying to help those just starting in the online world. I have met some amazing makers and truly enjoy watching their journey alongside mine. I am still very, very tiny but my biggest reward is those repeat shoppers that love my style. They make me smile the biggest of all.

*How do you spend your time when you aren’t creating?

I own a photography studio here in town and run that when I’m not creating home decor. But I also love camping with my husband, reading, hanging with my fur baby, traveling, thrifting & spending time with my friends & family!

*Salt and Branch sells only a few of your products. Where can people go to find more of your products?

They do and I truly appreciate and love the wholesale side of this venture as well.  I’m also located on Etsy at www.etsy.com/shop/simplystyledart

I’m on Facebook and Instagram www.instagram/simplystyledart

Is there anything I didn’t ask that you would like readers to know?

I think you covered it very well.  I think it is so awesome that you find the stories behind the makers.  Thank you so much for taking your time to see us here behind the scenes.
